Eye Surgeon Wolverine MI

Are you looking for an eye surgeon Wolverine MI?

Eye surgery, also referred to as ocular surgery, is any surgery performed on the eye. Eye surgery is typically limited to highly-trained ophthalmologists who have extensive experience and training. Because the eye is such a sensitive and fragile organ, your eye surgeon will select the best treatment for each case and be responsible for providing the utmost in care before during and throughout the procedure, include post-operative care. The eye is very sensitive and eye surgery will require anesthesia which is generally administered in the form of topical eye drops. For children who may not be able to sit still during a procedure, general anesthesia may be required.  Like in any surgery, eye surgeons must perform surgery in a sterile environment using gowns and gloves to reduce the risk of infection.

If you’re facing eye surgery, it may be due to an elective surgery to improve your vision or a surgery that is necessary to save your vision.  Laser surgery has become a very safe and common eye surgery that many people choose to improve their vision, either near or farsightedness, which allows them to get away from contacts or eye glasses. Common eye surgeries that may be needed in order to save your vision because of eye disease include cataract surgery and glaucoma surgery. Cataract surgery is needed when a person develops an opacification or cloudiness of the eye’s lens. This condition is generally due to aging, eye disease or a trauma to the eye which prevents light from entering the eye. When the loss of vision is significant, the lens might need to be replaced with a plastic intraocular lens. Cataracts are very common and therefor cataract surgery is the most common type of eye surgery. Glaucoma surgery may be necessary when traditional treatments are no longer effective in treating glaucoma. The disease is caused by intraocular pressure which can damage the nerves and lead to permanent optic nerve damage and even blindness if left untreated.
