LRI’s A Procedure Offered By Alpine Eye Care An Eye Surgeon In Grayling MI

Posted on 05.28.13

LRI's A Procedure Offered By Alpine Eye Care An Eye Surgeon In Grayling MIAlpine Eye Care offers patients a number of procedures and services to protect and enhance your vision. One of the many procedures offered by Alpine Eye Care is called Limbal Relaxing Incisions or LRI’s. A refractive surgical procedure, it is just one of a number of procedures used to correct a minor eye condition such as minor astigmatism.

The outer part of the eye is generally divided into 3 main areas which are:

  • Cornea – The clear part of the eye – aka the window
  • Sclera – The white part of the eye
  • Limbus – The thin area which connects the cornea and the sclera

What is Astigmatism

A vision condition that causes blurred vision due to either the curvature of the lens inside the eye, the irregular shape of the sclera or the irregular shape of the cornea. These irregularities prevent light from focusing properly on the retina, blurring vision. A common condition, LRI’s are one way to resolve the condition. What causes astigmatism varies, and in fact, most people suffer at least to a degree from astigmatism. It can be diagnosed with a comprehensive eye exam by your eye doctor. Once diagnosed, a non procedural fix is glasses or lenses or some may opt to have an LRI procedure. You and your doctor will need to decide what course is right for you. It is important to note that not every person is right for LRI’s.

What to Expect

If you do choose to have the procedure and your eye doctor believes you are a good candidate, it is important that you have a ride after the surgery. Although you will have very little negative effects from the surgery, your vision may be a bit blurry as your eyes heal. Anesthetic will be used during the surgery, so it is expected that you will only feel a bit of pressure during the procedure. The actual procedure is simply the surgeon cutting small relaxing incisions in the limbus to allow the cornea to relax and become more rounded when healed.

Your eyes are a valuable asset and your vision is important to us. If you are in need of an eye surgeon in Grayling MI, contact Alpine Eye Care at 1.877.SEE.2020 or schedule an appointment.
