Laser Vitreolysis – Laser Floater Removal is Here

Laser Vitreolysis - Laser Floater Removal is Here
Commonly referred to as laser floater removal, laser vitreolysis is a simple outpatient procedure that can be performed by any qualified ophthalmologist in usually under an hour. The purpose of this pain-free procedure is to restore optimal vision, by using rapid pulses of low-energy laser light to strategically eliminate pesky “floaters” that can disturb your sight. The laser vitreolysis, or laser floater removal, procedure is especially effective for patients who are victims of Weiss-ring floaters, and other relentless moving shadows, cause by vitreal condensations, strands, clouds, or fibers, however, each case is unique and must be properly evaluated by a qualified eye care specialist before any procedure can take place.

One of the main reasons laser vitreolysis is currently growing in popularity at such an impressive rate is the lack of reported side effects. Though there are of course risks of complications with any procedure, side effects of laser vitreolysis are incredibly rare. Some patients may experience brief redness, blurred vision, or general mild discomfort immediately after the procedure, but for the most part the treatment is extraordinarily effective.

Laser vitreolysis starts with the administration of anesthetic eye drops to prepare the eye for treatment, followed by the placement of a special contact lens. The low-energy laser light will then be sent through the specially designed microscope, into the affected eye and begin breaking down and evaporating the floaters. Most of the time you will be able to see this actually happening in the form of dark spots that indicate that the small gas-like bubbles are dispersing. After the treatment is finished you will likely receive anti-inflammatory eye drops to aid in your speedy recovery.

Though this method of treatment is wildly successful, most patients prefer to undergo more than one treatment to ensure a thorough elimination of all floaters. Luckily, because there is no inflammation or major side effects post-procedure, laser vitreolysis appointments can be made successively to ensure that you enjoy clearer vision faster. In the past, patients suffering from persistent obstructions in their vision were forced to rely on invasive surgeries, like the vitrectomy, to find relief. These risky procedures often led to bleeding and serious infections, but now thanks to laser vitreolysis, the latest and greatest in laser floater removal technology, patients are able to quickly get back to living their lives almost instantly after treatment. If you think you may qualify for laser vitreolysis treatment, contact a reputable ophthalmologist, like those at Alpine Eye Care, today to discus your case and find the answers you’ve been looking for.
