BOTOX® Grayling MI

What is BOTOX®?

BOTOX® is a prescription medicine which can be injected into muscles to help control certain medical conditions. Although Botox is now used in a variety of treatments and conditions in many parts of the body, it has several uses around the eyes. BOTOX® injections can be used to temporarily smooth wrinkles and temporarily reduce the symptoms of certain spastic eye conditions.

Why use BOTOX®?

BOTOX®, like all treatments, is not right for everyone and is only helpful for certain conditions, including cosmetic reasons, as well as a treatment for blepharospasm and entropion. When used cosmetically, BOTOX® may reduce crow’s feet on the outer sides of the eyes and reduce wrinkles between the eyebrows and on the forehead. When used as a treatment for conditions such as blepharospasm, BOTOX® will often help reduce the spasms in your eye within a few days and can last for a few months before symptoms will begin to reappear. Entropion, another eye condition which is characterized by spastic rolling-in of the lower eyelid is also often treated with BOTOX® injections. The injections will relax the spastic muscles and give the eye some much needed relief.

Note: cosmetic procedures are generally considered an out-of-pocket expense.

How long does BOTOX®last?

BOTOX® is only temporary. Generally, the effect of BOTOX® will wear off within 3-4 months time. Patients may choose to have the procedure repeated at this time.
